November meeting was held directly following the 3rd Rum Race for the fall series. There were 16 in attendance. Welcome to our visitor, Hannah, who crewed for Tim Fischer. Our Commodore welcomed back Beth and Terry Gassoway once again to enjoy our season with us. We also welcomed a new member, Phil Styne and his wife Barbara from Orlando. Overall race results are in for the fall rum race series, and in 3rd place Jeff Sabri, 2nd place went to Bob Hay and the overall winner was Ed Sims. The big bottle of rum was won by Roger Roddy. Congratulations to all 15 entrants in this year’s race series.
A few new ideas were suggested, one being a moonlight sail one evening when the moon is full. Another suggestion was whether to make the race commodore an elected or appointed position. There was a request to raft up in the middle of the lake and have a party the next time we have a club race and the wind doesn’t cooperate. Tim will bring a keg for it. It was decided that the Vice Commodore will be responsible for responding to all new inquiries to the club. There was a suggestion for a race day in December.
A big heartfelt thank you to Art Twitchell for the incredible work he has put in over the years maintaining the membership directory and producing the newsletter monthly. We all know how much work goes into both of those endeavors. The newsletter will no longer be done. All information will be located on the website for members. The membership directory will be maintained by the secretary.
The Lake Weir Christmas boat parade will be held on December 5th, 2020. The Christmas party may have a change in date. Stay tuned for updates. A big thank you to Lynn Sims for all of the tireless work calculating the results of every race we have. We couldn’t do it without you!
Gavel went to Art Twitchell for flipping his boat in the 3rd Rum Race held on Nov. 7th.
