As many of you know (or if you don't, you will now) our summer tradition is to give back to the community. Those OSC members with boats volunteer a few hours every year to the Marion County Parks & Rec's summer camp kids.
In the past we have met the campers at Lemon Point where they can board our vessels and get a taste of sailing.
This year (because the Rain Gods have blessed us so much ) there is currently no sandy beach at Lemon Point. I have requested a change in venue and have secured the Kiwanis.
I am reaching out to all OSC skippers to be available if possible so we can show the kids the magic of the wind and sails!
We usually have this event in June (not August) but this is what they requested this year. I will request for next year to be back on the June schedule so maybe our Snowbird members will still be here to participate!
An additional FYI to our new members .... the Kiwanis Club used the Lake Weir building for a very long time. Several years ago they gave back the facility for the county to manage. The Parks & Rec director was so pro-sailing, he granted us the same Kiwanis rental rates for our Spring Regatta, even though the daily rate tripled.
A few hours having fun on the water with kids is the least we can do for Parks & Rec!!! And you never know -- there could be a future world-class sailor among those that attend!
The date is August 1st. Sailing from 11am - 1pm so be on Kiwanis Beach ready to go at 10:30am.
Let me know by phone, text or email if you can volunteer so I can plan the day. Thanks!!!
Have a very outstanding day tomorrow ... and the next... and the next... and the next, etc.!

P.S. Snowbirds are welcome to come back early to attend! That in its own right would earn a thank you dinner!
