January 23, 2021
Well, the spring season kicked off with a great turnout for our January Bonfire potluck event. There were 20 in attendance. Commodore Tim started out by thanking our wonderful hosts, Ed and Lynn Sims for creating such a safe and happy environment. Our one guest was Amber Ross’ sister, Stacey, who was visiting from Nashville.
Tim spent a few minutes speaking of the passing of Pat Birkenmeyer, a long standing member of the club. Pat was a very loving, caring individual, who was always putting others first. She spent many years doing for this club, and was the inspiration behind the “Pat on the Back” award that is given out every year. The award honors the person who gives so much behind the scenes throughout the year for the club. We took a moment of silence to remember our fondest memories of Pat.
A bit of club history was shared by Ed Sims, as he explained where the January bonfire came from. Many years ago, the club would have an “Officer’s Bash” every January at John Hult’s farm in Sparr. A motion was made to change the name of our January bonfire to “The Officer’s Bash”.
We started conversations about the April Harpoon Regatta, understanding that we need to adapt to COVID19 rules for the event.
There are still 2 OSC hats for sale, $15 each. See Jan Cole if interested.
Wayne Birkenmeyer has a Harpoon sailboat for sale.
A separate email will go out to all members with the password for our website.
First Rum Race will be February 14 at Sims Beach, Evite will be sent out.
OBRS news: The gavel was handed out to Charlene, but not everyone knows why…Perhaps a story for the next meeting.
